Certified Hoods

The SCALA range of Fume Hoods guarantee maximum safety, excellent ergonomics, and workspace optimization and they are all certified in accordance with EN 14175 and ASHRAE 110.

What is it and what does it do?

  • It is a piece of collective protection equipment;
  • All lab work involving the handling of substances, whether they are liquid, solid, or gaseous, in quantities and concentrations that are dangerous to users, should be done in a Fume Hood.

What is the importance of certification?

  • Tests conducted according to EN Standard 14175 – Part 3 guarantee CONTAINMENT and ROBUSTNESS, that is, the capacity of the Hood not just to trap aerial contaminants inside it, but to even maintain its containment in the face of external disturbances, thus keeping the ambient air in the lab safer and preventing users from breathing contaminated air or the latter chemically attacking lab materials.

Moduscomplete has a range of specific models at its disposal, depending on the type of application. For the correct selection of the right Hood, it is essential to pay attention to the work that will be performed, as well as the substances that will be handled inside it, because depending on that the construction of the Hood will have to fulfill certain requirements, in order to guarantee maximum user safety.

Standard Hoods

Applications:

  • Appropriate for the large majority of common lab applications.

Main characteristics:

  • Hoods can come in several sizes and a wide array of configurations is possible depending on the kind of services that it will need to handle as well as with regard to construction materials;
  • It has a monitoring system that alerts users when the operating conditions necessary to guarantee safety are not being met.

Hoods with Secuflow Technology

Hoods with “SECUFLOW” technology require about 33% less extraction flow, as compared to conventional Hoods, allowing for an effective reduction in energy costs.

Applications:

  • Appropriate for the large majority of common lab applications;
  • Most recommended model for spaces where air intake is reduced;
  • Ideal for minimizing energy consumption.

Characteristics:

Aerodynamic optimization, using Supportive Flow Technology, which consists of an additional flow of air across the entire front area which assists the movement of fluids inside the Hood, directing them towards the exhaust conduit.

Walk-In Hoods

Applications:

– Protective equipment for users, certified according to EN standard 14175;

– Extraction of air from within the internal workspace to avoid air contaminated with dangerous substances from entering into the ambient air of the lab;

– Reduced risk of concentration of significant quantities of substances that could lead to a dangerous/explosive atmosphere;

– Protection against splatters, particles;

– Valve handles/ controls located vertically on the lateral service panels of the hood;

–  Appropriate for allowing barrier-free access to the internal workspace and for performing work that includes tall equipment.

SI 3 Stainless Steel Hood

Applications:

– User protection equipment, certified according to EN14175 and ASHRAE 110-2005 standards;

– Extraction of air from within the internal workspace to avoid that air contaminated with dangerous substances comes into the ambient air of the lab;

– Prevention of the formation of potentially explosive atmospheres inside it;

– Protection against spattering, particles;

– Valve handles/ controls located vertically on the lateral service panels of the hood;

– Valves, discharge sinks located on the side interior panels.

Special Application Hood

Aplications:

Hoods developed in accordance with EN standard 14175-7:2012, which regulates Hoods for special applications, which involve work with special thermal loads and/or acidic loads.

Part 7 of EN standard 14175 guarantees safety evaluation of the hoods, in the presence of elevated thermal loads. This fact fills a significant gap in the market: the existence of certified hoods for work that involves heat sources, which ends up happening in labs.

The aerodynamic flow technology must be such that acidic vapors are immediately extracted.

The acquisition of this type of special Hoods, as an alternative to standard Hoods, is the result of a risk assessment, as a way of mitigating the risks associated with activities that involve thermal loads and/or acidic substances.

Characteristics:

Construction materials must offer elevated chemical resistance to acids and acidic vapors and still elevated heat resistance;

The construction of this type of Hood must guarantee ease of access to all parts where there is air flow for purposes of cleaning;

In addition to the presence of a sound and visual alarm, EN7 Hoods are equipped with a temperature sensor, which is activated when the maximum temperature is reached.
